Mission class

Mission Hope Cebu was founded to bring love, faith, and hope for a brighter future to the children in Cebu, Philippines. We glorify God by providing weekly bible study food programs and basic needs to the poor and needy children and their families. Cebu is located at the center of the Philippine islands. Poverty incidence is registered at 33.6 % of the population in Cebu. Mission Hope Cebu Bible Study Food Programs are located in the poorest areas – Cebu City, Lapu Lapu, Mandaue Trash Dump Site, Inayawan Trash Dump Site, and Gass Mountain area. These are some of the poorest depressed communities in Cebu to have hundreds of malnourished children, where the child mortality rate is high.  Students per classroom ratio have been steadily increasing over the years.  Class sizes range from 50 to 80 per classroom.  In the poorest areas it can even reach up to 100  students per classroom. The children are required to attend day and night courses due to the overcrowding. There is a cost for schooling of books, supplies and uniforms, which the parents cannot provide. Mission Hope Cebu supplies children with the necessary supplies and uniforms each May before they start school in June each year.

Though impoverish Cebu is a place of belonging and somewhere you would be happy to spend the rest of your life. Even in the poorest area the people are very friendly. This culture is one of happiness where the people are always smiling and inviting. As you become familiarized with the people of Cebu, you find that they are wanting to learn and understand the Word of God, but they do not have access being that they live in poverty areas.

The issues behind poverty in the region are complex and affect people’s perspective on life.
